Fundamentals of Traffic Engineering
Overview
This course is a two or three-day overview and introduction to modern traffic engineering practice. You will study human, vehicle, and traffic stream characteristics, the science of measuring traffic and travel, and transportation planning, traffic safety management and traffic demand and impact studies. The session will also include a comprehensive discussion of traffic control devices such as signs, markings, work zones, and traffic signals and control systems. Examples derived both textbooks and regional practices will be used to generate discussion and hands-on work problems.
Who Should Attend
This course has been designed to introduce both new and experienced engineering personnel to the practice of modern traffic engineering. The course is appropriate for engineering personnel in any of the main transportation engineering functions: design, traffic, planning and construction, whether they are from local, state or central governments and government agencies, or from private contractors. The topics covered in this course are essential for each of these functions.
