A Safety Management System was established by the National Transport Infrastructure Company of Israel to promote all the activities on improving safety levels of the non-urban road network of the country. The system combines databases on road infrastructure characteristics, traffic volumes and road accidents, including video-log data and a GIS-platform, with safety models developed for local conditions and supportive tools for conducting network analyses and monitoring safety improvements.

Over the last 65 years, the IRF Fellowship Program has represented a life-changing opportunity for 1,371 transportation students to further their education and make lasting impacts in their home countries. On February 11, 2015, the IRF formally launched a campaign to raise US $4 million in endowments in pursuit of our goal to train the next generation of transportation leaders.

For the past 65 years, the IRF Fellowship Program has helped change the lives of 1,371 women and men in 117 countries. Through educational scholarships and a multi-day leadership program, these professionals have continued their education in areas related to transportation and greatly contributed to raising transport standards and quality of life in their home countries.

The Kenneth A. Stonex Roadside Safety Award was established in 1991 to recognize lifetime contributions to roadside safety. It was originally named for Ken Stonex, a General Motors employee who was a pioneer for roadside safety long before the seriousness of run-off-road crashes was recognized by most transportation agencies. The Transportation Research Board’s AFB20 Committee on roadside safety now presents the award annually to a deserving individual during TRB’s Annual Meeting.

The International Road Federation recognizes the significant role of the World Bank and other regional Multilateral Development Banks in influencing quality standards for road infrastructure and the broader transport system across all the countries where they operate.
