“Last Call” for IRF Fellowship Applications

IRF Fellowship Applications Due September 30

With an aggressive outreach effort, the IRF has received a record number of applications for the IRF Fellowship Program. IRF will continue to accept nominations and applications through September and grants will be announced in December.

The program provides a tremendous professional development opportunity for young talent with the potential to excel to the highest levels of the industry. Jose Luis Rochefort, Director of Highway Evaluation and Supervision, Ministry of Communications and Transport – Mexico and a 1996 IRF Fellow, had this to say about his IRF experience, “Being in the IRF Fellowship Program has been the highlight of my life. It opened a whole world of opportunities that still help me in my career”.

IRF encourages all of its members in good standing as well as past IRF Fellows to submit nominations for the IRF Fellowship Program - Class of 2013. Qualifications: In general, candidates are expected to meet these criteria; however, there are circumstances where some flexibility is possible.

  • Demonstrated potential as next-generation leaders in the highway industry, financing, administration, planning, design, construction, operations, and maintenance.
  • Three to fifteen years of progressive work experience in transportation.
  • A Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent) in a transportation-related discipline.
  • The ability to actively engage in study and/or research in English.
  • A commitment to full-time study for a minimum of nine months.
  • The ability to travel to and within the United States.
  • Strong endorsements from cognizant national road associations (or similar agencies), IRF members, and/or past IRF Fellow.

Students may apply for the IRF Fellowship online. All applications and related documentation must be submitted by September 30, 2011. Students selected for last year’s program began their studies this month at a number of IRF member universities across the country including University of Florida, University of Texas – El Paso, Virginia Tech, and Purdue University. We welcome them to the IRF family and wish them the best of luck in their studies!
