The IRF Third Latin American Regional Congress will be held November 8-11, 2010 in Bogota, Colombia. The congress will consist of five parallel technical tracks: road safety, pavement performance, tunnels, financing and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).

Objectives

The objectives of the congress include:

  • to share best-practices and innovative solutions from around the world with Colombian government agencies, universities and companies
  • to make available formal, certified training to Colombian Government agencies in the areas of road safety, intelligent transport systems/traffic technologies, standards, etc.
  • to eventually reduce the number of fatalities and accidents in Colombia’s roads through greater awareness of safety and better infrastructure deployments

Target Audience

During the IRF Congress in Lima, about 800 attendees participated, including speakers from the United States and Latin American countries. For IRF’s 2010 congress, the attendance is expected to be in the range of 750-1000. The target audience for the congress involves a number of individuals in the road and transportation industry. The target audience should include government officials (including decision-makers and technical staff), and civil and transportation engineers and technical staff from the following sectors and industries:

  • ministries and government agencies such as public works or transportation
  • multilateral and regional development banks
  • consulting and engineering services firms
  • road safety, tolling, signal control and other transport technology equipment vendors and distributor
  • pavement and asphalt, and road construction companies
  • toll-road operators
  • universities, research and technical institutes with an interest on transportation
