Degree Candidates

Applicant must complete the University of Florida on-line Application Forms, and submit acceptable original transcripts for your undergraduate degree. (If you submit original transcripts and reference letters with your IRF Application Form, we will send them on to the University of Florida at your request.)

Acceptable GRE and TOEFL scores are required before you can be admitted to the University of Florida. The minimum required combined GRE (Verbal + Quantitative) score is 1100, and the minimum TOEFL score is 550 (paper), 213 (computer-based), or 80 (internet-based) – but there is some flexibility in both scores in special cases.

The IRF Fellowship grant will pay your tuition and related fees for the Fall, Spring and Summer (if required). In addition, you will receive a stipend of $3,000 per semester for the Fall and Spring Semesters. You will also receive $1,000 upon successful completion of the IRF Executive Leadership/Fellowship Orientation Program in January.

Living expenses for a single student are estimated at $8,000 per semester. Hence, you will need to show proof of financial resources (e.g., employer support, parents, personal funds) of at least $10,000 (beyond your IRF Fellowship) for the first academic year, or document that you have been awarded a Graduate Assistantship at the time of admission.

You may apply for a Graduate Assistantship before and/or after you enroll at the University. There is no guarantee of an Assistantship – you will be in competition for the Assistantships available at the time your request is submitted. Awards are based on applicant qualifications. A Graduate Assistantship provides tuition and fee waivers and approximately $1,500 per month for living expenses. You will receive your IRF Fellowship stipends for the first year of studies, regardless of whether and when you obtain a Graduate Assistantship.

It is possible to complete a Master’s degree in twelve months if a student takes a full academic load each semester and during the following summer, but it normally takes at least three semesters of study.

Non-Degree Candidates

All Fellows at the University of Florida must apply as degree-seeking candidates. See the application requirements and Fellowship payment schedule listed above. There is no special category for non-degree students.

It is understood that some Fellows may choose to leave the University before completing the degree requirements because of employer policies or family considerations. The IRF Fellowship requires that you enroll in graduate studies for a minimum of two semesters; it does not require that you obtain a degree. Hence, you may choose to enroll as a degree student for two semesters, and then return home.

Executive Leadership/Fellowship Orientation Program

As an IRF Traditional Fellow, you will be required to attend the IRF Executive Leadership/Fellowship Orientation Program, in January in conjunction with the Transportation Research Board (TRB) meeting. This orientation program is designed to provide Fellows with a better understanding of the process of doing business in the transportation industry in the United States, the importance of leadership, and the benefits and merits of the International Road Federation.

All expenses for the Executive Leadership/Fellowship Orientation Program (housing, food, and transportation) will be paid by IRF; plus each Fellow will receive a $1,000 stipend. It will be the Fellow’s responsibility to arrange transport to and from Washington, DC for the program. This transport must be approved by the IRF before it is booked.
