Our mission is to educate our students to be engineering leaders and to solve complex problems of importance to society. In so doing, we extend engineering knowledge through creative, innovative research. We strive also to facilitate the understanding and use of new ideas, technologies, and practices for the betterment of society. Our faculty are dedicated to active learning that will provide our students with a basis for life-long learning and for successful collaboration as productive, ethical team members.

We offer our students:

  • A variety of courses of study developed by faculty with international reputations
  • Teaching and research with a strong focus on civil engineering applications and design in the areas of architectural engineering, geotechnical engineering, environmental and water resources engineering, transportation, structures, mechanics and materials, and construction engineering and project management
  • The opportunity to join outstanding undergraduate and graduate student groups made up of individuals from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds
  • Support from an excellent administrative and technical staff

In 2005, U.S. News and World Report ranked our graduate program in civil engineering third in the nation, and our environmental engineering graduate program was ranked fifth. Our undergraduate program in civil engineering was ranked third in the nation as well.

We consider our excellent students to be our greatest asset and we are very proud of our graduates as they go on to successful and varied careers.
