Unique Innovative Solutions for Congestion and Safety

For over 20 years, Barrier Systems Inc. has been a global leader in developing solutions for improving roadway safety and capacity. BSI offers a unique line of products to help our customers find the best roadway solutions for their congestion, construction, and safety needs. Moveable Barrier Systems for Managed Lanes.

Quickchange® Moveable Barrier

Quickchange® Moveable Barrier (QMB™) is designed to cost-effectively increase capacity and reduce congestion by making more efficient use of new or existing roadways. Moveable barrier provides a “fast-build” solution for improving highway capacity without having to wait for time consuming studies and reviews. Applications include high volume highways where additional right-of-way may not be available, where environmental concerns may exist, or where the lack of funding may slow or inhibit support for new construction. The system can transfer up to two lanes per pass of high performance concrete barrier at a speed of up to 10 mph, offering DOT’s an innovative strategy for making our congested highway system more efficient, safe and functional.

Moveable Barrier Systems for Construction

For construction applications, Reactive Tension System – Quickchange® Moveable Barrier (RTS-QMB™) is designed to accelerate construction, improve traffic flow and safeguard work crews and motorists by positively separating the work area and traffic. This “low deflection” moveable barrier reduces work zone congestion by enabling more lanes to be open during peak hour traffic. The work zone can be expanded during off peak periods, providing greater access for work crews which speeds construction.

Universal TAU-II® Crash Cushion

The Universal TAU-II® Crash Cushion System (Universal TAU-II) is designed, tested and approved to NCHRP Report 350 testing conditions for hazard widths up to 2.6 meters (8.5 feet) and for capacities from Test Level 1 (50 km/h, 30 mph) to over Test Level 3 (100 km/h, 62 mph). With a common set of components, the Universal TAU-II® can be assembled to satisfy all high and low speed capacity requirements and all narrow to very wide hazard protection needs. The system is fully redirective and non-gating, and it is ideally suited for hazards such as the ends of rigid barriers, tollbooths, gore points, utility poles and more. Ease of installation, numerous transition options, low maintenance requirements, and reusability of system components make the Universal TAU-II® system ideal for treating most roadside hazards.

ABSORB 350® Crash Cushion

The ABSORB® 350 system is a non-redirective, gating crash cushion that has been designed and tested to meet the rigorous requirements of NCHRP Report 350, Test Levels 2 (70 km/h) and 3 (100 km/h). The system offers maintenance workers and contractors a reliable and easy method to protect the ends of concrete barriers. The system can be attached to the end of either portable or permanent concrete barrier without the need to anchor the system to the roadway surface. At 2 feet wide, it is ideally suited for narrow areas where road and work space is limited. The ABSORB 350 is easier to restore after an impact than other non-redirective, gating, crash cushions. The system is designed with the customer in mind.

BarrierGuard™ 800

The BarrierGuard™ 800 is a rapidly deployable Steel Safety Barrier for use at work zones or as a permanent installation. The system offers extremely attractive costs compared to portable concrete barrier since 180m (600') can be delivered to a job site in one truck load. Very quick to assemble on site due to its unique QuickMount connection system, which uses only one bolt, a crew of three can install up to 300m (1000') per hour. A lower cost, high performance alternative to portable concrete barrier and the ability to easily move the system within the work zone make the BarrierGuard 800 system the preferred solution for work zone barrier needs.

SafeGuard® Link System

The SafeGuard® Link System offers a practical solution for including positive barrier separation in short-term construction work zones and controlled access points on long-term construction projects. The Link system is ideal for locations where safety and barrier portability are paramount. This freestanding barrier comes in 8.5-meter (28 ft.) sections and can be quickly interlocked to form a 200' to 300' portable barrier wall in about 30 minutes. The system can be “jacked” up on wheels and relocated in a matter of minutes.

SafeGuard® Gate System

The SafeGuard® Gate system is similar to the Link system but offers a solution for permanent median access openings. The Gate is used primarily for emergency openings in permanent median barrier where traffic needs to be crossed over to the opposite side of the road to facilitate evacuation routes. The gate is quickly “jacked up” to allow the section to be swung open from one end or completely moved away from the opening.
