Asociacion Espanola de la carretera/Spanish Road Association

The Spanish Road Association (SRA) is a non profit organisation founded in 1949, which works from its beginnings towards the road defence and promotion. Its main objectives are always the same: defence, promotion and development of more, better and safer roads.

In 1998, the Spanish Road Association was declared by the Spanish Home Office as Public Utility, due to its wide objectives focused mainly on the society.

From its creation, the Association has adapted its activities to the social and economical changes happened in each moment. At present, its actions are focused on the following areas:

  • Road safety
  • Environment
  • New technologies
  • Urban mobility
  • Infrastructure service quality

This is the reason that the SRA regularly organises many activities related to the technical sector, education or social campaigns: researches and technical reports, congresses, seminars, training courses, publications, informative campaigns, information exchange with other similar organisms all over the world, etc…

All these actions are possible with the co-operation of different organisations from the public administration, private companies, federations and associations.

With reference to the road defence, the SRA activities are not only national, so as its participation is required by international organisations related to the road sector.

Moreover, from its beginnings, the Spanish Road Association is the Spanish member of the International Road Federation (IRF) and the founder member of the European Road Federation (ERF).

It is also the founder member of the Latin-American Institute (IVIA), which is formed by research and technological centres from South America, and collaborates with other international institutions as the European Commission, the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) or the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

In 2005, the SRA received the most important international award given by the IRF. It was the “Global Road Achievement Award” in its category “Advocacy and Lobbying”. The prestige and the value of the activities of the Spanish Road Association was recognised all over the world.
